Imperial deck officers raise the level higher!

Imperial is proud to announce two deck officers from our fleet, Captain Dave Lee (below left) and Chief Officer Joe Arch (right), are the first two deck officers in the world to have been examined and certified according to the DNV GL competency standard for DPOs (Dynamic Positioning Operator) with the new notation for Cruise Vessels, Megayachts and other non-classed DP vessels. Dynamic Positioning is a computer-based system that collects data from the wind, waves and currents, calculating this information to keep the vessel in position without using anchor, but using the propeller and thrusters. Increasingly popular on-board cruise vessels and megayachts, the need for competency in handling this system has become more pressing. Insurance companies have for a long time offered lower premiums for vessels who are carrying the right on-board expertise. Captain Dave Lee and Chief Officer Joe Arch, with their long-standing experience at Imperial in some of our most important vessels under our management, have together with other crew members from Imperial been through an extensive and intensive training period. On Thursday 6th September at the Test Center at Kongsberg Maritime in Trondheim (Norway), they both passed the exam with flying colours. Another two of their colleagues are due to sit the exam in October 2018 under the DNV GL authority (DNV GL is the name of the new main class society following the merger of “Det Norske Veritas” and “Germanicher Loyd”). Imperial places the utmost importance on the calibre of our crew. In addition to appointing only the most experienced professionals, year-round training is an important part of any seafarer’s employment, and essential to ensuring safety on-board. This new milestone for Imperial and our Crew HR Department is further proof of the excellence of our Yacht Management activity. Thanks to our precise methodology, we are delighted to retain a 98% satisfaction rate for all seafarers placed on-board yachts under our management. It is proof that our dynamic and flexible crewing system is among the most effective in the world.
