ASTRA, a new idea of luxury yacht charter
A superyacht charter can be much more than a week spent anchored off the beautiful coastline of the French Riviera; rather than remaining static, travel by super yacht can open up a wealth of new areas to explore. Less than an hour’s drive from Port Hercule in Monaco, half an hour from Antibes’ Port Vauban, or 15 minutes from Cannes, the village of Mougins is perfect for a day spent on dry land.
Surrounded by lush forest and greenery, and with its beautiful cobbled streets, it is little wonder that Mougins has enjoyed some rather famous creative and artistic inhabitants; Pablo Picasso, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, and Edith Piaf have all resided there. With foundations for the village dating back to the ancient pre-Roman Ligurian tribes, the strategic positon of the village atop a hill has allowed Mougins to remain and evolve into the beautiful characteristic ‘bird’s nest’ village of today. This of course also means that there are some stunning views to be had to the green valleys below.
Mougins has also attracted numerous highly regarded chefs, and the village is so renowned for her gastronomy that there is an annual festival dedicated to it. Plan a stop during your next French Riviera yacht charter: MANIFIQ will be, for example, cruising along the area this summer 2016 and remains available for all your cruising expectations.
Mougins is the ideal spot for those looking after peaceful atmosphere in a very traditional, authentique Provencal charming village. Charming place dedicated to art enthusiasts, Mougins is also the place to be if you are looking after exclusive places.
EAT: Le Moulin de Mougins
Considered one of the best restaurants in the world, and situated in a C16th Mill, it is a gastronomical experience not to be missed. Holding 2 Michelin Stars, the menu is full of local produce and dishes, all with a typical Southern French flair. It is also a favourite haunt of celebrities who want to escape Cannes during the Film Festival.
EAT: La Place de Mougins
Right in the centre of the village, Place de Mougins is on a par with the famed Moulin de Mougins. Charming and quaint, their traditional dishes and surroundings transport you back to the buzz of old town Mougins.
DRINK: La Cave de Mougins
The only, and oldest, wine bar in Mougins, set in a C17th vault with over 12,000 bottles of wine, a drink here is the perfect start to an evening out in Mougins. Luckily, it is only a quick stumble up the stairs to the Moulin de Mougins restaurant!
DO: Musee d’Art Classique de Mougins
Known as MACM, Mougins’ museum of art opened in 2011, stemming from the overflowing art collection of a British collector who recognised the cultural significance of some of his pieces which he though ought to be on display to the public. Alongside works by Jean Cocteau, Picasso, Rubens, Hirst, and Chagall, a majority of the collection is formed of Antiquities. Displayed over four floors chronologically, it is a must visit when in the region.
