As one of the main international and US yachting events of the year, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (or FLIBS) is the perfect occasion to follow-up after the buzz created by the Monaco Yacht Show every year. The 2019 event will take place from 30th October to 3rd November and is set to be a major event for the American market as it’s celebrating its 60th anniversary. The numbers are impressive: over 1,500 vessels on display at 7 locations and nearly 10kms of floating docks! Being at the cutting-edge of the industry, Imperial will be present at this year’s FLIBS with a team of experts on the ground: our Head of Sales & Charter, Eric Lepeingle, reviewed for us the key points about the major American yacht show and why FLIBS is still considered as an unmissable event in the yachting industry.

1. Why attend FLIBS?

As well as being the largest show in the USA, and more generally in America, FLIBS is above all a major business platform. Following the Monaco Yacht Show, FLIBS offers an opportunity to continue networking and helps us keep abreast of the current brokerage and charter deals. That’s why it’s important Imperial has a team attending this year’s show to nurture the contacts forged at MYS 2019 with major American brokers and clients.

2. Is it worth travelling to Florida for business purposes?

Nothing can beat face-to-face meetings. We live in the era of digitalisation, and while capitalising on the buzz created by the Monaco Yacht Show, FLIBS is the ideal opportunity to gather in one place with all the key players in the US superyacht business. We make sure they are focused exclusively on this purpose. For Imperial, the venue and the event are clearly great opportunities to perform, invest and create new boundaries with our partners to meet our clients’ expectations. Emails and phone calls are a great opportunity to make contacts, but nothing beats meeting people in person and understanding how far we are willing to go to fulfil your desires.

3. What can we expect?

Superyacht buyers will be amazed by the line-up at this year’s event. As the largest yacht displayed, MADSUMMER (Lurssen 95m) will certainly make a splash on the US market. Among the new builds to be displayed as well, we can spot EXCELLENCE (Abeking & Rasmussen 79.95m). On the brokerage side, HERE COMES THE SUN (Amels 83m) is surely the yacht not to be missed this year. This impressive selection confirms the appeal of the region for all yacht owners, and it’s without doubt the best place to negotiate valuable brokerage and charter deals.

Please feel free to contact our team on site during the FLIBS show and be sure to book your appointment with us. As superyacht experts with remarkable vessels available in Central Agency (136m FLYING FOX, 82m RoMEA or 55m LILI for charter; 106.10m AMADEA and others in the 40–50m range vessels for brokerage), we would be delighted to fulfil your needs and expectations during this Floridian rendezvous.
